PROMOTIONAL FLYERS FOR CLUB DEL HORROR CÓRDOBA – "FRIDAY THE 13TH" SPECIAL
For this project, I created two flyers that, when combined, form a single cohesive poster-sized composition. Each flyer measures 1776 x 2865 pixels, designed for a double-feature horror event hosted by Club del Horror Córdoba, celebrating the iconic Friday the 13th franchise. The concept revolves around symmetrical composition, classic horror poster aesthetics, and a reinterpretation through brutalist and VHS-inspired visuals.
CREATIVE PROCESS & TOOLS
I used a wide range of tools including Aseprite, PureRef, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, and FL Studio to build both the graphic pieces and the final animated showcase. I began with a rough pixel sketch in Aseprite. Gathered visual references in PureRef using movie stills and poster art. Built a second composite sketch by layering images over the original base. Each image was manually cut and passed through a Threshold filter in Photoshop to achieve high-contrast silhouettes. Then, in Aseprite, I recolored and added granular dithering effects to emulate retro textures. Final compositions were assembled in Illustrator.
TYPOGRAPHY
The main event title, “V13RNES”, was created using the Melted Monster font (by Dimas Prasetyo), with a dripping blood effect on the upper half of each letter. The "13" is fully covered in blood: yellow on the first flyer (Jason Lives) and red on the second (Freddy vs Jason). Supporting information uses Grunge (by Andrus Peegel). Each movie title (Jason Lives, Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason X, Freddy vs Jason) was recreated using either the original poster fonts or manually assembled using Friday the 13th (by Norfok Incredible Font Design), with Spanish translations as needed.
VISUAL COMPOSITION
Both flyers are split diagonally by a central visual element, dividing two color schemes and narrative tones: Flyer 1 (June 13): A hand-drawn lightning bolt separates the yellow (Jason Lives) and blue (Takes Manhattan) halves. The bolt references the scene in which Jason is resurrected by lightning and was enhanced with gaussian glows for realism. Flyer 2 (June 14): A laser beam splits the flyer in reverse orientation, nodding to the sci-fi setting of Jason X and the surreal tone of Freddy vs Jason. Character placement creates a visual symmetry across both flyers. In each, characters face opposite directions to reinforce duality. Backgrounds feature grid overlays inspired by brutalist flyer design, particularly referencing artists like seis0seis.
POST-PRODUCTION & ANIMATED SHOWCASE
In After Effects, I applied glitch, noise, and distortion effects to simulate a damaged VHS look. In FL Studio, I remixed and bitcrushed the song “The Man Behind the Mask” by Alice Cooper (Jason Lives soundtrack) to match the analog aesthetic. Final clips were assembled in Premiere, producing a promotional video that starts with a panoramic view of both posters and zooms into each one individually. The video ends with a special logo version of the Club del Horror Córdoba, featuring Jason's iconic hockey mask and two crossed machetes over the original typography. I vectorized and designed this variation specifically for the event.
FINAL DELIVERABLES
Two high-resolution PNG flyers that work both individually and as a unified symmetric piece. A promotional VHS-style video presentation. A special-edition logo designed for the event featuring Jason Voorhees. This project was a complete blend of graphic design, typography, pop culture, and retro analog aesthetics. I'm extremely proud of the result.
